Israel Serna

Israel’s experience in both the public and private sectors includes business development, sales and marketing projects targeting Small Businesses, Non-Profits, Specialty Coffee Industry, Latino and other multi-cultural communities. He has organized various international conferences and developed strong relationships with local and international community leaders.

Before joining the Orange County – Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Israel was Regional Development Director for Constant Contact, responsible for a team of Authorized Local Experts who provided valuable training and skills to small business in the Southwest Region (California, Arizona, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Mexico) all related to digital marketing. He managed all National Partner programs, which consisted of SCORE, SBDCs and Regional Chambers of Commerce events.

Prior work includes working for the Specialty Coffee Association of America, Los Angeles Regional Small Business Development Center Network where he oversaw regional marketing campaigns, educational programing, trainings and event productions. Prior to that, he formed part of the creative team at Marketration Inc., a boutique agency, specializing in Latino marketing and product campaigns for clients such as Unilever, Proctor & Gamble, Kodak and Kroger. Early in his career, Israel worked as an International Program Specialist at Rancho Santiago Community College District, helping run and facilitate the daily operations with the International Consortium for Educational and Economic Development Annual (ICEED) Conference, the Center for International Trade Center (CITD) and at the Santa Ana College – International Students Office.

Israel has firsthand experience as entrepreneur. He previously owned a photography business focusing on family portraits, networking events and other cultural events.

“Working for the Orange County SBDC Network is rewarding because our work not only impacts the lives of the small business owners but the lives of their family members as well,” says Israel. “It’s rewarding to see a business go on to be successful knowing that our services were part of it.”

Israel grew up in a bi-cultural environment with Mexican roots and is bilingual in Spanish. He has a B.A. in International Studies from California State University, Long Beach.
